About cTrix

Started playing with music software on a first gen Commodore 64 when I was 5 (I think just enjoyed the noises back then!) Moved onto a Commodore Amiga in 1991 - so got used to low poly. Started playing with "fake" chip sounding tunes from 1995 but it wasn't until 2003 that I got all nostelgic and bought another C64, took a deep breath, and started writing tunes involving playroutines and programming of the SID chip. I have dabbled with a Gameboy but I think the SID chip is my beast ;-) I compose mainly for Amiga (MOD) but still write 2 or 3 SID/Chip tunes a year for a bit of fun and the odd compo. I will post 'em over time as I convert them and also upload some new tunes when I get time. I hope you enjoy them! :-) - cTrix ps. I also run Australia's biggest demoparty for oldskool hardware, Syntax Party. So if you are in Oz you gotta come down to the next one!

cTrix : You've managed to do what?! How?! Hang on... that's like playing a 7" vinal in a CD player. The Vectrex uses a vertically orientated vector based screen in monochrome. As far as I have seen from watching a live unit the horizontal and vertical deflection magnets are controlled directly from 2 x D/A converters - hence the lack of pixels. Atari is the opposite - a pixelated jungle outputting rastered dots into multiple bitplanes (as seperate tracks on the PCB) which are multiplexed within the RF modulator. So how does the Atari actually work with this?! Does it rasterise the image into pixels in low rez? Can actually play / see anything? Do you have to turn your TV on it's side? How does it deal with the monochrome image? It's cool and I love it - I just can't get my head around how it could possibly work! (other than creating awesome visual glitch-core) Next time I'm in SA I'll be knocking on your door!! ;-)
