yamaha cs-5!
i just got this a couple of days ago and it's my first analog synth. this thing is sooo cool! i can get pretty much all the sounds i could ever want out of it, even some pretty chippy sounding pulsewaves and such. and it's from 1979 - it's one of the main synths depeche mode used on speak and spell! it kinda cost a lot for me, but considering that it wasn't too bad actually (perfect working condition).
oh, and that's my cat souvlaki next to it. he's amazing too.

argent s : kraze: if you can afford it you should snap up that cs-15 quick. even this is a good synth but a 15 would be even better. like i said,pretty versatile for such an old thing. and nice looking too!

kraze : Sweet. There's a cs-15 at a local shop I have my eyes on, it's pretty overpriced but i'm sure i'm going to end up buying it anyways.

neil_voss : Congrats!... that is a one of the tighter, cleaner analogs of the era. The HPF/BPF are particularly useful to slice through a mix with menacing tears. I've had ahold of one of these for quite some time - you can hear it featured gratuitously on the N64 'New Tetris' soundtrack, including as the acid synth riffs in the title track.

argent s : alex_mauer: its actually a fairly simple synth as they go, with only one vco, 1 vcf and 1 vca (and of course an lfo), but the sounds are still surprisingly full. it's good enough for now at least! oh, and donteatdinosaurs: if your trying to save up for your first analog i might go for one of these or another in the cs-series. it's really easy to use and fairly cheap for anaolog gear (mine was $330 with a stand). and they still sound great!
